Put Your Worries on ICE

What would happen if you had a serious accident or a medical emergency? How would your loved ones be notified if you're unconscious or unable to speak? Chances are precious minutes and hours would pass before the people you care the most about learn of your plight.

There's a current campaign to combat this problem - it began in Europe and is spreading to the U.S. It's a simple as I-C-E, an acronym that stands for "In Case of Emergency." Simply program the phone number of your closest family member or friend (whoever you want notified in the case of an emergency) into your mobile phone and name it "ICE." If you want more than one ICE number, that's not a problem. Simply use ICE1, ICE2, ICE3, etc. When paramedics or emergency personnel respond to your emergency, they can easily scroll through your mobile phone to find the ICE number(s) and contact the person whose number you entered.

Final tip: when typing the name "ICE," precede it with a period ("."). This will put ".ICE" at the top of your contact list, making it even easier for emergency personnel to find the entry.
